Yesterday I saw a post from someone on my Facebook wall that said something about Facebook shutting down.  I asked where they heard this.  They said it was probably just a rumor.  I was really hoping it was just a rumor because Facebook is part of my life.  I know a lot of people rely in Facebook to keep in touch with friends as well as network with other people.  I have met so many people through facebook.  If it weren’t for Facebook, I would not know anything about Daddy Rich or Urban Image Magazine and would not be writing this article today.

I get daily e-mails from the New York Daily News Online.  I saw an article about the Facebook shutdown rumor and have to share it since I am sure many people must have heard this rumor by now.  In fact, Facebook users were in a panic.  The New York Daily News Online said that “Is Facebook shutting down” was the 14th most searched for item on Saturday and the 10th most article Googled on Sunday!  There were even groups popping up on Facebook like  ”Against shutting down Facebook on 15th of March” and popped up with the slogan “No Facebook, No Party”.   Even on Twitter people were worried about what was going to happen to the pictures that they put on Facebook and what would happen to their social lives.

“If Facebook shutdown Im not going to remember nobody birthday (sic),” one Twitter user wrote.

Other people were saying that they were going to transfer everything over to Myspace, Twitter, or a new service that Google is working on.

On Sunday night, Facebook aimed to put a rest to the rumors and tweeted, “We didn’t get the memo about shutting down, so we’ll keep working away. We aren’t going anywhere; we’re just getting started.”

After that rumor was started, people started making fun of others because of how addicted people are to Facebook.  So many people put pictures and invitations on Facebook.  Yes, I am guilty of it.  I will post pictures of my kids and the books I read.  It’s the way to show my friends what is going on in my life and a way to network with other people that have the same interests that I wouldn’t have known if it weren’t for Facebook.  Some people seem like they are on some kind of kick to see how many friends they can get too.  I went through my friend list and dwindled it down a little.    I am in no competition to see how many friends I can get.

“The number of Facebook users believing it will shutdown proves how badly it needs to be shutdown,” Twitter user Ramezm quipped.

No matter the parody report, Facebook is set to most likely release its public finances to possibly become a public company later this year. A few weeks ago, a team at Goldman Sachs valued the Harvard tech-startup at around $50 billion.

If it as valued for that at an IPO offering, it would be the largest start-up tech offering in history.

I don’t know why anyone would say Facebook needs to be shut down because so many people use it.  That is crazy.  I think someone out there is jealous of how many people are using Facebook, or some other company out there is trying to start something up.  What better way to get more business than to start this rumor and get people to transfer everything over to their site instead of Facebook.

Gucci Mane a/k/a Radric Davis, age 30, was arrested in December.  Now he says he is not competent to “intelligently participate in the probation revocation hearing”.

Yesterday in a Georgia courtroom,  Gucci was ordered into custody and was committed right away to a mental health treatment facility pending an evaluation of his mental condition.

Gucci  is still at the treatment facility.
