BlackAmericaWeb.com reports:
According to the Charlotte Observer, Bank of America has given $100,000 to the victims of the June 17 Charleston shooting and to a Charleston African American history museum which is set to open in 2017.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the families and we hope this support will help those impacted as we mourn this tragedy,” said Kim Wilkerson, South Carolina president, Bank of America, which did not issue a press release about it.
The Observer report says half of BOA’s donation will go to the Low Country Ministries – Reverend Pinckney Fund, which provides support to the families of the shooting victims at the Mother Emanuel AME Church. The other half of the bank’s donation will go to the new International African American Museum, which will tell the history of African Americans of Charleston and the rest of the U.S. and “serve as a new place of healing for the community.” It will open in 2017.
What an honorable thing for Bank of America to do however it still won’t bring those lives back. Its always so sad to me the efforts that are made by big corporations and community leaders after lives are lost. What we must do as a community is figure out how to prevent these precious lives from being taken in the first place. Not just in the Charleston situation but in every situation where senseless acts if violence occur. You could say the Charleston Massacre was a fluke because who would have ever thought that you wouldn’t be safe at Bible Study but the sad truth about the matter is that there are so many evil , sick, deviant people out there these days that we really aren’t safe anywhere.
I mean think about it; we’re not safe at home, people are shooting up workplaces and schools….getting killed on the streets. Pretty soon there will be no place safe enough to take refuge. SMH. The world is coming to a very evil existence and this to me is quite scary. Anymore the hate is not even most of the time motivated by race.
