“I must believe, I must believe, that the heavy grace of God, which has brought me to this point, is all that can carry me out of it.”
― James Baldwin, Giovanni’s Room
The grace of God and a can of whoop ass — Serena opened it, delivered it: point, set, match.
“It feels so good,” Williams said on court of getting the Open underway, defeating 86th-ranked Vitalia Diatchenko of Russia in just 12 minutes before leading 6-0, 2-0 when her opponent retired in front of a confused and largely quieted crowd on the Arthur Ashe Stadium court.
“Whatever happens, Williams, said, “I’m here where it all began in 1999. I’m trying to take this one match at a time, this milestone I’m trying to achieve.”
Stay with her, beautiful people. Serena’s poised to make history.
“I can feel the support… It’s been amazing,” Serena gushed. “If I can stay relaxed, stay calm and just stay happy out here, I have to look at it that I have nothing to lose in this tournament.”
Indeed, baby girl, indeed. Do it to it!
