Evidently, the commercial success of Straight Outta Compton has shown Hollywood that there is big money in Black, music based films. Personally, I always knew this. Think back to Beat Street, the Breakin series, Krush Groove, Tougher Than Leather, Purple Rain, and other others I may have forgot. There’s nothing like packing into a jam packed theater on a Friday night and the music starts pumpin as the opening credits roll. It’s like a party up in there. And, I’ve missed that feeling for years. Straight Outta Compton brought that energy back, and it looks like Hollywood is ready to cash in.

Earlier in the week it was announced that Master P has co-written and is self directing his biopic “Ice Cream Man: King of The South”, which will be produced in-house by No Limit Forever Films.

And further, it has been reported by TMZ that Daz Dillinger says there is a Straight Outta Compton sequel already in the making. The sequel will document the rise of Snoop Dogg, 2Pac, Suge Knight and Death Row Records. According to the Dogg Pound member, none of the actors in Straight Outta Compton will be returning. Instead, Dr. Dre’s son Curtis Young will depict his father on the screen.

Hopefully, this energy will spur a whole new generation of black films in Hollywood.
