You know, I wrote a piece entitled “Tribute to my Mom” for Mother’s Day back in May, and it was easy. (In case you missed it) http://urbanimagemagazine.com/2013/05/12/a-tribute-to-my-mom/)
When writing about my mom and all her virtues (because I spent so much time with her as a child –mamma’s boy I know), the ability to express the love I have for her in writing was fairly simple. When trying to describe Dad, it’s not so easy.
Don’t get me wrong, he was always there in my life, but then again he wasn’t. And when I say that, I mean he was “literally there” living with my mom the whole time, and not just merely a sperm donor trying to play dad from a far, but he was out hustling and doing his thing supporting my mom and his children. My memories of my dad are ones of “firmness”, “no nonsense”, and “don’t do what I do, but do what I say do” type of memories. very strong, great provider, crazy protector, and downright scary at times! … a real man’s man. That was my Dad!
I don’t have really many fond father/son memories like many men may have…No tossing of the ball around in the yard (hell, in NYC we didn’t even have a damn yard!), or hearing his cheers in the stands at ball games or other activities, or even being the best man at my first wedding. But he still somehow managed to instill in me many of his best attributes…The main one being his love for his family, and how important family was to him…”Did you call aunt this, cousin such in such, or uncle that?”…”Yeah dad I will, I got a life you know, and I’m a little busy right now!” But before you know it, their all gone… even big bad dad!
I wish mine were still around so we could kick it, watch a game, talk about family and life, and then me and my wife could dip out while he watched over his grand’s….That would be my Father’s Day wish.
Love you Dad, Rest in Peace…Kiss Mom for me!
I guess since Chris decided not to conduct interviews this year pops decide to take his place. So good ole pops chopped it up with some magazine and when asked about his son’s relationship he says his son Chris Brown should leave ‘piff-puffin’ Rihanna alone because it will only lead to a road full of bad things. Umm too late boss.
This coming from the man who regularly beat Chris’s mama while he was growing up? Piff-Puffin’? Chile does he think his son do anything? Plenty of pics I have seen with Chris looking blew back!
I get that he wants to ‘rebuild’ his relationship with Chris but really? If I were Chris I’d tell my daddy to shut up I got this. I know his mama is rolling her eyes. The father’s intention seems a tad bit fishy! What do you think?
Peace and luv!
I don’t have an opinion (damn, someone write that down) on this but I am dying to hear what my readers have to say about it.
So ok we all know Gwyneth Paltrow is besties with Jay and Beyonce. Over the weekend Gwyneth attended Jay’s and Kanye’s concert and later tweeted a pic of her backstage with Kelly Rowland, Bey, Jay, Spike Lee and The Dream with the caption ‘Ni**as in Paris for real’.
Let me say this. I do not accept any white person saying ‘nigger’ or ‘nigga’ around me. We will never be that cool for me to ever allow a white person to fix their lips to say either version. I am slowly realizing that I shouldn’t be saying it myself because at the end of the day it isn’t a healthy word, people say we took the power out of the word however have we really? Reading 90% of the responses on different blogs and websites obviously we have not. People are still going crazy. I remember two years ago this little boy said it to my son, not being malicious or anything but I remember feeling some type of way afterwards. That right there made me realize I probably shouldn’t be saying it. Again I still say it, I have to take baby steps; God didn’t make the earth in a day!
As far as the tweet goes Gwyneth didn’t spell out the whole word so I wanna ask you since it is the name of the tour and song is it ok that she tweeted that?
Peace and luv!
