Too Drastic?
Police handcuffs (Photo credit: Wikipedia)
A six year old student was taken out of her school in handcuffs. Allegedly the kindergartner tore things off the wall and tossed them around, books were tossed as well along with toys potentially endangering classmates. The girl also threw a shelf at the school’s principal then jumped on a paper shredder on top of attempting to break a glass frame. The teacher called the police which resulted in the child being exited out in handcuffs.
What is your opinion? Should the school have reacted in a different way?
I’m on the fence with this one but I’m leaning more toward supporting what they did. Don’t cuss me out just yet hear what I have to say first. Kids are not how me and you were growing up. I remember being terrified of my grandma when she would give me that look, you know that look it would freeze my whole body and I would straighten up real quick.
School shootings are common now so is bullying. Teachers are threatened and put in violent situations; they are not getting paid enough to go through this. That child obviously has something going on to act out and I wasn’t there so I’m going off of my assumptions of what ‘allegedly’ went down. No one just wakes up and is immediately crazy. The teacher felt it best to call the police. He/She couldn’t get her under control so she called the po-po. The school was doing two things: 1) protecting their own asses because one wrong move or bruise and the parents could sue for being too aggressive and 2) trying to scare this girl straight.
I remember the bus my kids rode a few years ago. It was filled with children so bad (starting fights, jumping up and down, taunting, bullying, making threats, etc) that they had to have a police car follow them the whole way home to make sure nothing happened. Kids don’t play, months ago a kindergartner brought a gun to school to show his friends. How in the hell did he get to that gun so easily? I hope this situation makes that young girl think twice before she want to throw furniture, toys and books in the classroom and the parents need to take her to some anger management classes – real ish!
Peace and luv!

Um…short answer… yes. She was endangering others and herself. That kind of behavior is totally out of context and that restraint is for everyone’s protection… geesh.
a six year old in handcuffs sends the wrong message the child no doubt acted out the question is who did she mimic and why also i believe the chlids was trying to get someone’s attention to what she had to say and she said a lot maybe a call for help in the way that she was sure to get the help she needed
Ok I feel you but what should have they done? I can understand if the child was throwing some crayons or paper but this girl tossed shelves, broke glass and threw an object at her principal. Say for instance they restrained her by putting their arms around the girl kind of in a tight hug, if she is still kicking and throwing punches she could possible break a bone because she does have a small frame so I think they did what they thought was best and if I was in the situation I would be looking out for that child, the rest of the class and myself because it’s no longer a small temper tantrum.
